v0.2.0 - Now With Sound Update


Overview:

This is the first major update to Micro Star Command. Its main feature is the addition of music and sound to the game. Most of the sounds were found on FreeSounds.org and the music is from OpenGameArt.org and is made by Holizna. Additionally, a host of UI improvements were made to improve readability and aesthetics.

Features:

  • Sound effects
  • Music
  • Reworked the Info screen to be less overwhelming and more informative.
  • Improved UI for better readability and transitions.

Balance Changes:

  • Money is generally harder to come by and defeat & relics are more expensive.
  • Buying level-ups at shops is cheaper.
  • All AI now react faster as the game progresses.
  • Probe payloads cause probes to be slower.
  • Propaganda machines are stronger.
  • Missiles now only fire from the homeworld, reduce starting strength, and are much stronger.
  • And many more small tweaks.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fix some relics not appearing so the following are now in the game:
    • Burst - Fast, non-continuous
    • Rapid - Fast, low throughput, continuous
    • Spread - Slow, non-continuous that spreads out a lot.
    • Malita - Slow, high throughput, continuous
  • Fix some issues with the shops.
  • Fix issues with formations being interrupted.
  • Fix AI sometimes commanding player systems.
  • Hide the last half of the sectors as they are currently unreachable.

What's Next?

Next on the agenda is completing the last half of the sectors. This will definitely include balance changes, a new AI type, 2 more boss fights, 2 more relic tiers, and about 2x the number of sectors to explore. The next update may also include a few new relics, and maybe an additional AI type.
